Detail of Proposed Changes

New content to be added to Section 6.12:

  • Overall text direction shall be declared on the document's root tag using the attributes specified in 32000-2, Table 375.
  • Changes in text direction shall be declared as they occur. Only the changed attribute shall be declared (WritingModeBlock or WritingModeInline, respectively); if the other attribute (WritingModeBlock or WritingModeInline, respectively) has not changed, it should not be declared.
  • A tag shall use only one method of declaring text direction. That is, a conforming PDF may include the ISO 32000-1:2008 WritingMode attribute or the ISO 32000-2 WritingModeInline and WritingModeBlock attributes, but shall not employ both methods on the same tag.
  • A sequence of CW and/or CCW value(s) shall define the direction of text appearing on a non-linear baseline.
  • The WritingModeInline attribute of text located at the intersection of two paths or at an inflection point of a curve shall have a value of None.
