Module: Annotations / Media
Module: Annotations / Media
Description
This section describes the set of annotations that are used to represent the various types of media (multimedia) that can be present in a PDF. This list may include movies, audio and other media.
Requirements
- Accessible media objects may be linked from PDF/UA-compliant files. When media objects are embedded within PDF/UA-compliant files:
- Videos with soundtracks shall provide open or closed captioning.
- Videos that cannot be understood from the main soundtrack alone must provide audio description, either open or closed.
- Audio recordings consisting mainly of dialogue, speech, or interviews must be transcribed.
- Screencasts (narrated slideshows) are equivalent to slow-motion video with regular-speed sound and shall provide open or closed captioning.
- Authors may provide a transcript for any recording or video and may do so in addition to captioning. All transcripts intended as accessibility methods shall be provided in the same PDF document as the video, recording, or other multimedia, and shall use correct document semantics. For video media, provision of a transcript shall not be deemed a replacement for captioning.
- Videos that are presented as examples of written, spoken, or sign language (where the language itself or its use is the purpose of the recording, not the meaning of the words), including language-learning sessions and linguistic field recordings, do not have to be captioned, transcribed, or audio-described.
- Media objects shall be tagged with a media tag.
- The media object shall not play automatically unless it is the only content present on the page and receives focus. Otherwise, the object shall play upon user request only.
- Media objects shall include alternate text that describes the media object.
- In the media clip data dictionary, the optional CT key (Section 9.1.3, Table 9.9, page 764) (ISO 32000: Section 13.2.4, Table 271, pg. 488) shall be required.
- In the media clip data dictionary, the optional Alt key (Section 9.1.3, Table 9.9, page 764) (ISO 32000: Section 13.2.4, Table 271, pg. 488) shall be required.
- A document may contain multiple renditions of other presentations of content that could be more accessible to some users.
See the new Media tag requested for ISO 32000-2.
