Discussion of ISO 3200-2 Request for Orlando
Discuss text-direction (led by CE)
CE consulted with language experts at Windows International. 3 comments emerged from those conversations.
- Add a 4th example at the bottom for the new note following table 3.4.3 for the Mongolian writing system which is left to right, top to bottom. This is due to the fact that Mongolian is often mistaken for Chinese.
- Current implementation is not a clean implementation if using LtoR, R to L on alternating lines. It is doable on a line by line basis though not optimal.
- All this that has been written only applies to visual representation without a cultural consideration.
No other changes, no other suggestions.
LR: Bottom paragraph about the algorithm goes away as the text is already laid out. The paragraph above, I have similar comments. Columnar layout, text flow, all decided once put into the PDF it is fixed. Issues regarding writing mode block. Paragraphs need to know the writing mode. Remove the first two sentences of the paragraph that discuss columns, because columns are not relevant to this discussion.
DJ: It's no longer table 3.4.3 it is 3.8.6 in terms of the draft.
