Timeline for Publication, Objective, steps to achieve
LR Before discussing timeline, I would like to discuss the nature of the deliverable. Currently 2 options. Option A a subset of a larger standard in the same vein as other PDF standards (A, E, etc.) Now that PDF is an ISO standard another course of action is open to us.
Lift the work of the committee same as PDF for Healthcare and develop a best practices guide.
GP My concern is that if Best Practices does that preclude our ability to extend the language when needed?
MG If a best practice, we lose the sledgehammer that says you must conform
NS A standard will give people a standard to which they can conform.
Options: Continue this discussion, modify agenda.
Agreed, integration discussion moved up from tomorrow to now, then timelines and discussion
Unanimous
DJ: What would it look like?
LR: The things we want to see in PDF going forward. PDF/UA's proposals would be submitted for inclusion to ISO 32000 part 2. Removes the technical details / burdens from our document and puts it into 32000.
DJ: That is sort of what we do now.
MG: PDF has always been extensible.
LR: By the end of 2011 PDF/UA optomistically could be ready.
LR: 3 - 5 month voting period, minimum of 20 months before shipping UA. We can't get this standard done until 2010.
MG: We can create a standard that we are comfortable with and submit it to 32000 for consideration. But there is no guarantee that our submissions will be accepted. At least we can control what will be in our standard.
DJ: I wouldn't want to give up on being a unique standard because we could lose traction in the world. As a best practice, who cares?
Review each subsection, determine and prioritize additional work necessary to achieve v1.0
DJ: Proposal: Does the Committe elect to realign itself with PDF ISO 32000 part 1 as its basis for reference within our own committee documentation?
No objections
Motion adopted: PDF/UA is to reorient its documentation to ISO 32000
MG: The AIIM editor can do that for us.
DJ: Yes, all we need to do is instruct them to do so, and fill in the gaps for our documentation.
DJ: As it is an administrative task to convert references from 1.7 to 32000 we should continue referring to 1.7 and then instruct the AIIM Technical Editor to make the change at the time that individual prepares the PDF/UA standard. Our time would then be better spent reviewing the results.
LR: Language to go to ISO 32000 Part 2 consideration by June 15, 2008.
DJ: Proposal, the committee needs to elect a technical editor. Any volunteers?
DJ: GP volunteered to be Technical Editor. Any objections?
None
Greg Pisocky PDF/UA Technical Editor.
Task: New Page to be established on the Wiki, (see the New Tags page) visual scrape to items requesting change and prepare in proposal format and links to those subsections to assess the changes being made to the ISO reference.
DJ: Now we know how this committee aligns with the ISO reference.
LR: Nothing can happen unti a first draft. Submit an NWI (new work item). Now out of AIIM and into ISO. Since we are including the draft, they will provide comments on the draft itself. Needs to be aligned to an upcoming meeting so that the comments can reviewed by all the national bodies.
DJ: If we were to attempt to get this into consideration for October
LR: NWI's need 3 months. That would be July. I would recommend backing up one more month and go for June.
DJ: Does this committee have any sense as to whether we can submit a first draft by June?
NS: Doubtful
FE: What are our objectives for the first draft?
DJ: My understanding. All the subsections in the TOC brought to completion and then all of the changes brought to editorial review.
LR: First working draft is just enought to be give people an idea of the work of the committee. It does not have to be fully fleshed out.
LR: Place it in the ISO template, in ISO language and offer for consideration.
DJ: By the end of May, a draft standard to be forwarded to the AIIM technical editor. In June that document gets distributed to the international members.
NS: We need to work back from that May date. Establish a timeline.
DJ: We should write our documents based on the Wiki page and bring it up to AIIM and ISO standards.
DJ: Use a portion of tommorrow's meeting to do the planning for how we roll out the rest of it.
LR: See Appendix C as an example. Change the links from hypertext to ISO references.
