2006-142 Meeting MinutesRoll CallDuff Johnson, DJ, Chair - Document Solutions Joe Clark, JC - Accessibility Consultant Mark Gavin, MG - Appligent Greg Pisocky, GP - Adobe Systems Leonard Rosenthol, LR - Adobe Systems Neil Soiffer, NS - Design Science Rosenthol, Soiffer Rosenthol / Soiffer Review Action Items, updates from assigneesDJ to post updated action items Discuss "minimum tagging requirements" (in context of PDF/A )LR gave an overview of PDF/A participation. PDF/A complex but technically easier. PDF/A is a series of prohibited attributes, PDF/UA calls for a series of mandated attributes. 2 Conformance levels for PDF/A level A and Level B. Level B basic. PDF/A level B does not provide for rich meta data and tagging and structure. For PDF/A tagging and structure would enable the extraction of symantic information from a PDF file. Not enough requirements regarding what should be tagged. One can build a PDF/A v. 1 with a minimum and inadequate tag set. PDF/A response would be to refer to PDF/UA's discussion of tagging. Next draft of PDF/A v. 2 meeting in January. New draft expected to be submitted March / April with approval expected around Sept. 2007. Expected for ratification early 2008. What is the distinction between tagging for symantic extraction and tagging for accessibility? The question, what remains the minimal tagging requirement? What would the minimum tagging requirements look like? So for example, table structure would have to be present in order for semantic extraction to occur. List strucuture is vital. Adequate tagging represents the document heirarchy. If you have, tables you must do... If you have lists, you must... etc. Need to avoid the easy out of using a single tag to solve the tagging requirement or tagging the document where the tags are all equal structurally though the document is organized in a heirarchical fashion. More than just a series of paragraphs for example. How to convey the minimum of semantic elements. JC: Propose the minimum set of tags is all the set of tags defined in PDF 1.6 Note: PDF/A is based on PDF 1.4 Discuss work performed on Modules since the last meetingUnder framework, Joshua O'Connor's comments . GP to add links to technical specifications that define flicker rates to avoid. Update Action Items, review ASSIGNMENTSDJ updated the Action Items section with the appropriate changes.
