The Portable Document Format (PDF) was invented by Adobe Systems, Inc. The PDF Reference, the original technical description of PDF, was first published in 1993. In July, 2008, ownership of the format was transferred to TC 171 of the International Standards Organization (ISO). This site, the working space for the various PDF Standards, is maintained by AIIM staff and committee volunteers.
Mission of PDF Standards
The various ISO Standards detail PDF technology in normative terms. The material is intended for PDF application developers and policy-makers concerned with PDF technology implementations in contexts ranging from rendering to printing, archival, engineering and accessibility.
This wiki hosts the work products of the AIIM and ISO PDF Standards Committees charged with maintaining and developing the PDF format. All committee members are encouraged to share in the development of the content of this site.
